Julian Hyvönen´s tips, Founder of Gitte Interiors

I’m Julian Hyvönen, interior designer and founder of Gitte Interiors. I’m drawn to objects that show signs of life – patina, wear, and the small imperfections that make a space feel real and layered. I’m not looking for flawless surfaces, but for depth, atmosphere, and stories.

Gitte Interiors was born from this philosophy. It’s not just a furniture store or design studio – it’s a personal way for me to explore and express my inspirations through meaningful, evolving projects.

In Helsinki, I’m especially inspired by independent shops with a strong and authentic voice. Vain Store Helsinki is a beautifully curated space where fashion lives on its own terms. Fasaani is a never-ending treasure trove, and Mendera’s unique lighting and quiet aesthetic bring richness and diversity to the city’s design scene. Design Museum is a constant reminder of the timeless relevance of design, with exhibitions that are both thoughtful and visually compelling. And Paja & Bureau showcases craftsmanship in its raw, creative form – something I deeply value.

When I need a break, I often head to Pikku-Vallila or Viinibaari Apotek – both places where the mood is built through small details and a sincere, lived-in atmosphere. These are the same elements I try to capture in my work at Gitte: a feeling that doesn’t shout, but stays with you.

Design District Helsinki brings together people who do things in their own way. I’m proud to be part of this network – and to help shape a version of Helsinki where aesthetics are everyday, lived, and lasting.
