Island’s own // Solja Upola

Finlandia Gallery will host Solja Upola’s (PhD) art exhibition themed ’Island’s own’ inspired by her time spent exploring nature. The exhibition includes 20 impressionistic water colour paintings by Upola, which have not been viewed by public before.

Upola paints her water colour pieces on site, capturing moments in nature. Through her paintings the viewer may join in these authenthic moments.

Upola describes these painting sessions empowering and purifying. ”My mind clears off from unneccessary thouhgts and restlessness when I concentrate on the subject. Time stands still while I capture impressions.”

The artist Solja Upola is originally from Lapland, and nowadays lives and works in Helsinki. Solja Upola is a member of The Finnish Watercolour Society.
