Johanna Bruun’s “Why are you screaming into the void?” Exhibition
–Johanna Bruun’s Why are you screaming into the void? exhibition is about feeling lost and unsteady in a world that seems increasingly difficult to grasp. The exhibition is built around an artist’s book published by Khaos publishing.
Why are you screaming into the void? is a visual and philosophical journey into the modern world’s endless flood of information and the fascinating, restless spiral of doomscrolling. Nearly 400 pages of images and phrases take the reader deep into the noise of the digital age and the incoherence it creates.
The book is built on both personal and broader questions that intertwine with a rich and suggestive visual world. The visual material flow disconnectedly – mirroring the way images and verbal streams overlap in our everyday lives. The book is guided by a mantra from the early 2000s, the cult quote of SATC character Carrie Bradshaw: “I couldn’t help but wonder.”
Johanna Bruun is an artist and designer who primarily uses books and printed materials as her forms of expression. Bruun has worked in art criticism and journalism for over ten years. From this experience she has learned one important thing: asking questions.
“My belief is that when there are no answers or visions for the future – finding questions can be a way forward.” –Johanna Bruun
