PURE HeART -Installation
Collaboration between visual artist and textile designer, Pure HeArt is a single-wall installation consisting of Peppi Kankkonen’s paintings and hardened cross stitch letters by Eija Zweygberg.

Recent isolation has increased the need and appreciation for experiencing intimacy and community. Love springs from a pure heart. Both artists have created their own content on this complex and profound topic – Peppi in Tampere and Eija in Helsinki. During the process, they have communicated with each other via pictures and text messages.

Their dialogue between different cities and later encounter in Makkara gallery was warm and surprising as they could not meet face to face due to the existing pandemic. Both of them only saw each other’s work in the gallery. The installation is constructed from different parts just like the discussions, the distance and the work, which eventually form the ensemble that can be seen in Makkara gallery.

– Kankkonen is primarily a graphic artist and has made installations mainly using graphic art and hand-made paper addressing different themes of plant and human symbiosis. The paintings plywood are a combination of acrylic-, wood- and spray paints and are inspired by Baroque paintings, stencil graffiti and the traditions of pop art.

– Zweygberg has worked on textile graffiti as a member of the Concreatives collective. The influences of her work is the interest in pop art and e.g. the works of Corita Kent and their philosophy.
